Did you know that veclavtalica and (technically) I have been working on a thing you might call a game engine? Bet you didn't! Please tell me you didn't !

It's called Townengine, though it's more commonly referred to as twn. Its primary goals are to achieve development simplicity and compatibility through constraints. You write game code in C or anything that talks to C—for example, we provide a direct starting point for coding in Lua.

I will edit this post to add a link when there is a consistent public repository available...

twn is awesome. i have some free time after the 14th, and i wanted to do a complete game in it. maybe a pototownjam?

We might have to get a little creative with the more unfinished bits, but it could be useful to find what can be improved in what's already present (A LOT PROBABLY). No idea how many potos are actually willing to use it

Is there some sort of design document or anything else supplementary to get accustomed to it before it releases? Like, examples, screenshots, how one would develop a game using it, what concepts it operates in?.. Something more to know for a person who missed on it a little before

Well, there should be... Though it would change a lot over time. I might do a quick starting tutorial for Lua at least.

EDIT: To be clear, there is a "wiki" for this, which explains the general philosophy and how certain systems work, some details of which are not implemented yet. But that's not really enough to actually use it. I will also document the full API eventually, but it's still a bit fluid for now.

ideally there should me and it was planned when wiki was made, but no real effort is put there at the moment

i found it really quite hard to write good tutorial/explanatory text as well, need practice

lots of visuals or even interactive things based on web build of twn itself would be great
i like all things awesome !

non-goal but would be really neat: have a twn project running on web with a code editor on the side, and you can make changes to the code and press a button to reload it

probably a yes-goal, but web build needs to mature a lot, it's kinda vestigial at this point
